Direct answer

To file a confirmation statement, check the company record, update details that need separate filings, then use the appropriate Companies House online service or paper CS01 route. You normally need company access details, the company number and the company authentication code.

Key facts

  • Check the company record before filing the confirmation statement.
  • Some updates must be filed separately before the statement is sent.
  • Online filing usually needs company access details and the authentication code.
  • The CS01 paper route exists, but online filing is usually quicker where available.

Before you file

Companies House guidance says you should check your company details before filing. If information is incorrect or out of date, some records must be updated before the confirmation statement is sent.

Changes to directors, secretaries and PSC information are examples of updates that may need to be made before confirming the record. The confirmation statement can handle some information, such as SIC code or shareholder information, but not every change.

Filing routes

Companies House provides online filing and paper CS01 routes. The online confirmation statement service applies only to certain private companies, and other companies may need to use WebFiling or the paper form.

The service page says directors may need a Companies House account, company number, company authentication code and payment for the annual fee. Check the service before starting because eligibility and fees can change.

After you file

Keep the filing receipt or confirmation and update your records with the new confirmation statement date. If you filed early, the next review period may have changed.

If the filing fails or you realise something was wrong, use official Companies House guidance or contact Companies House rather than trying to fix the issue through unrelated filings.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the registered office on the confirmation statement?

No. Companies House guidance says some changes, such as registered office changes, must use a separate process.

Does BusinessSorted file the confirmation statement?

No. BusinessSorted helps you organise the obligation and related date; it does not file documents with Companies House.
